TunnelBear, StrongVPN, and WiTopia are lesser-known players in the VPN space but are worth considering for anyone that wants a hassle-free and reliable VPN. All three VPNs provide the level of security and privacy protection you would expect from a reputable VPN, including 256-bit encryption, no-logs policies, and a variety of secure VPN protocols to choose from. With 24/7 customer support, global server networks, and apps for the most popular devices, all three appeal to a wide audience. However, there are some important details that you need to know before you simply pick one of these VPNs. For example, TunnelBear has the largest server network but doesn’t cover all regions, while StrongVPN has the most US server locations. They also differ in the features and level of security they offer on different devices, which can affect your decision.

TunnelBear is one of the most beginner-friendly VPNs, offering a solid free version. Despite its adorable design, it’s also renowned for its security and privacy features. But can you truly rely on this lighthearted VPN to protect you the way the best providers can? After extensive tests, I can confirm that TunnelBear is an excellent VPN with great potential. It’s straightforward to use, d...

    DANGEROUS for CANADIANS

I live in the GTA, everything was fine "until" I installed TunnelBear on one of my 7 devices, now I ca... n no longer watch any USA TV stations on line on any of my other 6 devices, this company is scum, they hid something in there that disabled all my other devices unless I buy their VPN, well, not going to buy their garbage, can't believe how much it slowed my device, I would rather wipe all my drives than give TunnelBear one cent!More

StrongVPN is one of the oldest VPNs, and many people praise it. However, its monthly plans don't offer a money-back guarantee, and you may find it too expensive if you only need a VPN for a short time. To determine whether it's worth the yearly commitment, my team and I tested every aspect of StrongVPN, including speed, security features, and a thorough investigation of its privacy policy. Ov...

Greetings, I have no complaints about Strong VPN no problem with payment of Canadian credit cards r... eliable service trustworthy security when connected. I don't know why there is so much negative feedback I'm just very lucky and no I'm not a lucky Irish man. Great price I pay $4.99 monthly support is great speeds are great and their encryption is very secure, I always check if my DNS if are leaked, and they always pass and check my speeds which are good. I know when connected with Strong VPN I can trust that I'm safe and secure with them.More

Witopia is a small service that’s gotten some critical buzz. However, it’s still less popular than the top VPNs. Is this a hidden gem, or is there a reason it’s trailing behind the giants of the industry? After testing all of its features, I’ve concluded that WiTopia can’t compete with the best VPNs. It has slow speeds, buggy apps, a vague privacy policy, and many other issues. For a...

    a Horrible VPN service

They have great customer service BUT the VPN service is horrible. Been using them for years and have ... never been really happy. But it has gotten so bad that I download a free VPN Pronto and the speed is day and night difference. Without any VPN I get 96 Mbps With Witopia I get 12 to 20 Mbps with free Proton VPN I get Download Mbps 54.53. I will be signing up for another service what is so sad WiTopia was one of the first VPNs and if they would of put the money into their product they could have been on of the top companies. I cannot give them even a 6 just my opinion They could have been so good. PS this is also true with their Android just not good.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

While StrongVPN puts on a good fight, it just can’t beat TunnelBear in most categories. What makes TunnelBear so good is its interactive world server map which will be most users’ favorite way to find the ideal VPN server. Its stealth mode, called “GhostBear,” also means it’s the only one among the three that can be used in countries with restrictions on internet freedom and the use of VPNs.

    Best VPN for Torrents

Thanks to its relatively fast speeds, StrongVPN will be your best bet as a VPN for torrenting out of the three. While none explicitly mention it in their marketing, StrongVPN does support torrenting. However, both TunnelBear and WiTopia’s speeds are too slow to consistently download P2P files in a decent amount of time.

    Best VPN for Windows

TunnelBear’s desktop apps are a joy to use, so it should be no surprise that it wins here. The world map server dashboard makes it easy to quickly find the server location that you want to use. It’s also a very minimal and fun design, which is easy to use even if you’ve never worked with a VPN before. It will also automatically choose the best protocol (between OpenVPN and IKEv2) for you and comes with a kill switch, split tunneling, and stealth mode to get past firewalls in restrictive countries like China.

    Best VPN for Android

TunnelBear has excellent mobile apps, particularly for Android. It has all the most important features and is the only TunnelBear app to offer split tunneling on top of a kill switch and stealth mode. Plus, it’s just fun using a bear-themed VPN. Most other users agree as the TunnelBear Android app has an exceptionally high rating on the Play Store.

    Best VPN for Mac

StrongVPN has the strongest macOS app out of the three VPNs. It supports a variety of protocols, including WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, and IPSec/L2TP while TunnelBear only supports OpenVPN. In terms of the quality of design, WiTopia is behind the other two VPNs with a slightly outdated-looking macOS app.

    Best VPN for iOS

For the same reason, we prefer StrongVPN’s iOS app over TunnelBear’s, as the latter only supports IPSec/IKEv2 while the former supports WireGuard, IKEv2, and IPSec. However, it’s close as both have easy-to-use apps and are rated very highly by iOS users.

    Best VPN for USA

Despite having a presence in the fewest number of countries, StrongVPN actually has the most server locations in the US (5). That means you should be able to find a fast US server close to you wherever you are. Neither of the other VPNs has significantly larger global networks that would make them much better for people in the US looking to find international servers. It’s also not a problem that StrongVPN itself is located in the US, as it has a strict no-logs policy.

    The Bottom Line

This was a tight race between TunnelBear and StrongVPN. However, TunnelBear wins because, overall, it offers more feature-rich apps, a better user experience, and a variety of handy VPN "modes." However, StrongVPN can still be a good choice if TunnelBear doesn’t offer a server near you, which is the case in Russia and the Middle East. With secure VPN protocols, like OpenVPN, 256-bit encryption, and the ability to get past internet restrictions, TunnelBear can compete with much larger VPNs.
