Advertised as a simple, safe choice for Russians, weB2Best is a cheap VPN. It claims to offer fast speeds with reliable connections for a very low price. But is it actually a quality VPN, or is the price so low because it’s no good?
To find out, I performed extensive tests on all of its features. This included testing it with all the top streaming platforms and recording speeds. I also did leak tests to see if it can really hide your true location and thoroughly explored its privacy policy.
These tests showed me that I can’t recommend weB2Best. It doesn’t have the security features you need to stay safe online, and it slowed me down a ton. The server network is one of the smallest I’ve seen with a paid VPN, and it stores too much of your data. It’s better to try one of the top VPNs that offer fast speeds, military-grade encryption, and huge server networks.

Streaming — Can’t Unblock Any Streaming Platforms
6.4
I wasn’t able to unblock any streaming platforms with weB2Best. Part of this could be because I could only connect to the Russian server, where some platforms are blocked. But weB2Best gave me such slow speeds it wouldn’t be a good choice for streaming anyways. On top of that, there are only 2 locations available, so you wouldn’t be able to access many libraries from around the world.
Blocked By: Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime Video
I couldn’t even access the Netflix website. Usually, when I’m blocked by Netflix, I at least get an error screen from Netflix. With weB2Best, I only received a blank white screen with the message “not available.”
Hulu, Disney+, and HBO Max were also blocked. HBO and Disney+ gave me official screens from the platforms that stated it wasn’t available in my region. The Hulu website couldn’t even be accessed. I came the closest with Amazon Prime Video. The website worked, and I could browse the video library. But I was only able to watch trailers — full movies and shows were blocked.
Major streaming platforms could start working in Russia, but that seems unlikely
There are tons of great VPNs out there you can use for streaming. To unblock popular platforms and libraries from around the world, check out this list of the best VPNs for streaming.
Speeds — Super Slow
2.0
My speeds dropped a bunch, and if you have a slower connection, you won’t be able to do much with weB2Best.
These are the 3 categories you need to look at when it comes to internet speeds:
- Download speeds let you know quickly you can receive information. This is important for torrenting, loading webpages, etc. It’s recorded in megabytes per second (Mbps).
- Upload speeds are the opposite and indicates how fast you can send information. You need good rates to quickly upload videos on YouTube, post on social media, etc. It’s also measured in Mbps.
- Ping tells you how long it takes your data to travel. This is most important for gaming where you want your inputs to register instantly. It’s recorded in milliseconds (ms).
To start, I did a test on my base speed (without a VPN connected) to see how it compared with weB2Best:
|
Download |
Upload |
Ping |
No VPN (Austin, TX) (O km) |
274.59 Mbps |
68.13 Mbps |
4 ms |
Moscow server (9,500 km away) |
24.71 Mbps (91% drop) |
26.66 Mbps (61% drop) |
153 ms |
Since I could only connect to 1 server, I also decided to find average speeds over 5 tests. The rates were pretty consistent. My average download speed was 20.8 Mbps. Upload was 23.71 Mbps, and the ping rates never changed more than 2 ms.
Every VPN will drop your speeds a little, but these are much larger drops than average. The fastest VPNs will only lower my speeds by 10-20% on nearby servers. Unfortunately, unless you live close to Russia or Germany, you won’t be able to use a server close to you with weB2Best. However, the best VPNs will still only lower my speeds by around 30-40% on long-distance servers like the one I tested here.
The best VPNs hardly drop your speeds at all, to the point where you’ll barely notice a difference. If you want to stay safe online while maintaining high speeds, read this list of the fastest VPNs around.
Are weB2Best’s Speeds Fast Enough for Gaming? No
2.0
There was so much lag with weB2Best that I couldn’t enjoy online gaming. You want to have a ping rate below 85 ms to play games online with minimal lag, and weB2Best gave me nearly double that. With high ping, it’ll take too long for the server to respond to your button presses. When that happens, the game stops being fun because you can’t be competitive.
I tested it out by playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. This is a fast-paced shooter game where you’ll notice even a small delay. When I was looking for a match, a message came up warning me that my ping was too high. Once the game started, I was instantly killed before my character even loaded on the screen. When I was able to load another life, the lag was so bad the screen continually froze before it caught up to the live game.
You never know who might get access to your vital information when you connect to an online gaming server. I suggest you try one of the best VPNs for gaming that can keep you safe and provide low ping on servers around the world.
Server Network — Only Offers 2 Servers
4.0
There’s a server in Germany and 1 in Russia, and that’s all. That’s disappointing since there are many VPNs out there with thousands of servers that cover every continent. In my case, I couldn’t find any servers nearby which hurt my speed.
The worst part was I couldn’t even connect to the server in Germany. When I asked support for help, I was told my ISP could be blocking it. I’m not sure if that’s true, but I’ve connected to hundreds of VPN servers during my years of testing. Plus, it should be a VPN’s job to have things like rotating servers or obfuscation technology to let its customers connect to its server no matter what network they’re on. Plus, if weB2Best offered more servers, it wouldn’t be a big deal if 1 didn’t work.
In addition to its small size, weB2Best’s network doesn’t offer any extra features that its competitors do. For example, some VPNs have RAM-based servers. These increase your privacy by deleting all of the information on them every time they reboot. Many VPNs also have specialized servers that are optimized for streaming, gaming, or torrenting, which weB2Best doesn’t offer.

Security — Missing Several Necessary Features
0.5
Even though you can successfully mask your real location with weB2Best, it can’t keep you safe like the top VPNs can. I was happy to see that it did hide my IP, giving me an IP in Moscow when I performed a leak test.
Since you connect manually with OpenVPN, you’re protected with AES-256 bit encryption. This is the same level that militaries and banks use. It’s nearly impossible to crack, so I wouldn’t recommend using a VPN that doesn’t have it.
While that’s good, weB2Best doesn’t offer a kill switch, which you need to stay protected at all times online. This blocks your internet connection if the VPN ever disconnects, so you’re never vulnerable. This is very disappointing since I had connection issues with weB2Best.
There are several other security features offered by its competitors that are nice to have like split tunneling, double VPN, obfuscation, and more. Plus, other VPNs let you switch protocols, which can be helpful. For example, Wireguard is faster than OpenVPN. For a paid service, there’s just not enough here. If you want to make sure you’re safe from hackers, governments, and anyone else looking to spy on your data, try one of the safest VPNs available.
Privacy — Stores Too Much of Your Data
0.5
weB2Best isn’t privacy-friendly, since it stores your IP address. It also stores how much data you use, which server you connected to, and the time you connected.
Even worse, it stores everything (including your IP address) for a full 90 days
The policy hasn't undergone independent auditing or been validated in a court case, making it difficult to rely on. The best VPNs all offer evidence that they adhere to their privacy policies. Given that weB2Best hasn't done so, there's a possibility it retains more data than it openly acknowledges.
Lastly, weB2Best is located in Russia. While this country isn’t in the 14 Eyes Alliance (an agreement between governments to share their citizens data), it has banned several VPNs. Some VPNs have even left the country after the government seized their servers. So not only will weB2Best store your IP address on its servers, but there’s a chance the Russian government could get a hold of your data.
The best VPNs won’t store your IP address or any of your online activities. I recommend you check out one of the VPNs from this list with proven no-logging policies.
Torrenting — Slow Speeds and Blocked Websites
2.0
I couldn’t access any torrenting sites with weB2Best. But I still wanted to conduct my tests, so I disconnected from the VPN to find a torrent. Once I had downloaded it, I reconnected to weB2Best and launched uTorrent. The speeds were some of the slowest I’ve seen, never going higher than 12 kb/s. This meant it would have taken me 16 hours to download a 700 MB file. With no VPN, I can download a file that size in 15 minutes.
Torrenting is legal in most countries but accessing copyrighted files isn’t. We don’t condone any illegal activities, so I recommend making sure you only download legal files. If you want to safely torrent with fast speeds for downloading and seeding, look at this list of the best VPNs for torrenting.
Does weB2Best Work in China? Yes
You can use weB2Best while you’re in China. Since it has a server in Russia, you’ll also be able to find a nearby location when you’re in the country. Unfortunately, there are no servers in China or Hong Kong, which would let you unblock more streaming platforms based in the country.
Many VPNs can't get past the Great Firewall in China, so this impressed me
While the Chinese government has banned many VPNs, it usually does this by going after the technology. It’s uncommon for them to go after individuals. My team and I don’t condone any illegal activities, so I recommend reading up on Chinese laws before you decide to connect to a VPN while you’re there.
Simultaneous Device Connections — Unlimited
You only get a single connection with your weB2Best subscription. This is common with free VPNs, but most paid services will let you connect at least 5 devices. At the very least, I expect to connect my phone and laptop when I pay for a VPN. There are even some top VPNs that let you connect an unlimited number of devices. I recommend you check out this list of great VPNs that will let you connect several devices at the same time.
