TorrentSafe Review 2024 - Keep This in Mind Before Buying

Our Score: 5.1/10
Ranked 120th out of 198 VPNs
MJ Marsden Former Cybersecurity Researcher

TorrentSafe is a website that lets you download files and stream directly from your browser, keeping your IP address hidden from the torrent client. At first glance, it seems like a quick and easy cloud-based service — all you have to do is copy and paste your chosen torrent URL into the site’s search engine.

I wanted to see how fast and safe the website really is. So I ran a series of tests looking at download speeds, security, privacy, and ease of use.

While I was impressed with some of TorrentSafe's features, there are a few privacy concerns that mean I would always use it layered with a VPN. VPNs offer strong encryption and security protocols to give you extra protection while you torrent. The fastest VPNs can even give you better download speeds.

Please note that I do not condone the torrenting of copyrighted files. Always check that the file you are selecting is public domain, and consider the laws of your country before downloading any files.

Important. This VPN is primarily marketed towards businesses. Unlike most personal VPNs we review, it's not necessarily designed for activities like streaming and gaming. Therefore, consider that its overall score may be impacted since we grade every VPN using the same categories. To make an informed decision, read on to see how the VPN performed in the areas that matter most to your business.

Streaming — Doesn’t Unblock Streaming Services

TorrentSafe isn’t a VPN, so it doesn’t actually unblock platforms like Netflix or Hulu.

If you want to torrent movies and shows, copy and paste the relevant link into the search box to download your chosen file. You can then stream directly from the website (which means you can stream on whichever device you want).

graphic showing TorrentSafe's download barDownloading movies is fast and easy

Most video files are supported except .avi, which doesn’t work with the direct streaming feature.

If you're looking for a service that lets you unblock your paid-for streaming accounts instead, choose one of these reliable, fast, and secure VPNs for streaming.

Speeds — Fast Servers for Speedy Downloads

TorrentSafe’s servers are usually extremely quick thanks to high bandwidth. That means you can download files faster than using your own server and traditional torrent clients. Another plus is that TorrentSafe’s servers bypass the torrent rate limits imposed by many ISPs.

However, my speeds varied depending on the amount of traffic on the servers. If you encounter a slow connection, you can either wait and try again a little later or use a download manager. TorrentSafe’s website works with all the top IDM’s — all you need to do is click the “copy to clipboard” icon and paste the URL into your download manager.

If you want reliable download speeds at all times, I'd go with a superfast VPN like ExpressVPN instead.

Security & Privacy — Safer Than Traditional Torrenting But Doesn’t Block Malware

TorrentSafe makes your torrenting activities safer, but only if you use it wisely.

Privacy

The main pro for using TorrentSafe is that it keeps your IP address hidden from torrenting clients. This is because you simply copy and paste the file’s location from the client and insert it into the website, which downloads it for you.

Once the download is passed to you, the file is deleted and TorrentSafe doesn’t keep any logs of the files you’ve downloaded. However, although TorrentSafe doesn’t track your downloads, it does store your IP address.

graphic showing TorrentSafe's privacy policyThankfully, the website doesn’t share your information with any 3rd parties

That being said, the privacy policy confirms that TorrentSafe does not pass your information to other companies. If you sign up for a paid account with your email address, you might get some marketing emails, but you can opt out at any time.

The website also uses cookies to operate, so if you change your browser settings to refuse cookies it won’t function properly. However, TorrentSafe assures users that the cookies do not collect any of your personal data.

Security

TorrentSafe does not remove malware and trackers from the torrent file. It simply downloads them for you and passes the file to you as it comes, so it’s up to you to make sure you protect yourself.

That said, the service has a handy “convert URL to image” function that allows you to see the contents of a website without having to visit it. This shows you if there are harmful scripts in the files you want to download, so you can avoid infecting your devices. If you have a premium subscription to the website, you can use this as many times as you like.

As with all torrent activities, you should use a good antivirus product on your devices when you use this website. You can also give yourself additional protection against cyberattacks by using a VPN that can detect and block malicious content, like PIA.

Does TorrentSafe Work in China? — Unlikely

China is known for its strict firewall (known as The Great Firewall), meaning that most international websites are blocked once you’re within the country. The Chinese government dislikes torrenting, and so it’s highly unlikely that a torrenting site would have been overlooked by these restrictions.

I wanted to double-check to see if my suspicions were right, so I contacted TorrentSafe’s support team.

graphic showing TorrentSafe's customer support responseThe customer service team don’t know for sure, but it’s highly unlikely that the website works in China

The website staff couldn’t tell me if the service works in China, so I think it’s pretty safe to say you’d have a hard time using TorrentSafe in the country. Instead, try one of these tried-and-tested VPNs that work in China.

Simultaneous Device Connections — Unlimited

You can use TorrentSafe on any device you like. If you’re on a paid plan, your activation key can be used as many times as you like on simultaneous devices for unlimited torrents.

Device Compatibility — Compatible With Most Devices

TorrentSafe is compatible with any device that supports a browser.

Set-Up & Installation — Instant Access

There’s no installation process — just go to the website and insert the torrent URL into the search engine. From there, you can download the file to your device or stream it directly.

To subscribe to the premium service, all that is required is your email address to receive your license key. No additional registration is necessary. With the license key, you can enjoy the service on an unlimited number of devices simultaneously. Furthermore, you have the freedom to cancel the subscription whenever you desire.

It’s quick and easy to sync up to Cloud Storage services too, including Google Drive, Dropbox, and IFPS. In order to integrate TorrentSafe with your Dropbox account, go to your Dropbox settings and choose “scoped access” then “app folder” options. Enable permissions in “files.content.read” and “files.content.write” to allow torrent files. Go back to the settings area and press “no expiration”, then generate a token by clicking the “Generate” button. Add the token into the My Downloads area of the TorrentSafe website, and you get support for files of up to 50GB in Dropbox.

TorrentSafe accepts all major credit cards and Bitcoin as payment methods for its paid plans. There is no option to pay using PayPal, which is a little disappointing as this is my method of choice. However, it’s good to see that the website accepts Bitcoin, particularly if you like to remain anonymous online.

There are 4 available paid plans — monthly, 1-year, 2-year, or quarterly. All of the premium options get you unlimited downloads, unlimited max file sizes, and 7 days file lifetime (the free plan only lets you download files up to 1GB with a lifetime of 2 days).

Graphic showing TorrentSafe's payment plansYou can pay monthly, or choose a 1-year or 2-year plan and pay upfront

With both the 1-year and 2-year plans you have to pay the full amount upfront. Or, you can spread the cost but pay more overall with the monthly plan. There is also a quarterly plan at $12.95 to be paid every 3 months, so there is an option to suit most budgets.

Since there is a free plan, there is no free trial on the premium subscriptions. There is no money-back guarantee either — if you choose to cancel your plan you get access to the service for the original duration you paid for, it just won’t auto-renew at the end.

Reliability & Support

3.3

TorrentSafe’s website has an extensive FAQ page that describes most of the issues you might come across and how to resolve them. It also explains the service’s features and how to navigate the website. If you have a question that isn’t covered by the FAQs, you can submit a query form.

I asked a question using the support form and had an answer within the same day. It wasn’t a superfast response, however, and the representative couldn’t answer my question about whether the website works in China. That said, it is unusual for a website like this to have a contact form at all, so I was impressed to see there is a dedicated team available for additional troubleshooting and advice.

The Bottom Line

Final Verdict

TorrentSafe is a great tool that adds an additional level of protection to your torrenting activities. Although it doesn’t prevent infections from malware and other hazards, it protects your IP address from torrent clients.

This website can also speed up your downloads, and helps you to avoid bittorrent caps. You can stream torrent movies and shows directly, and use the service on unlimited devices.

Still, I’d recommend using the website with a VPN. Though TorrentSafe keeps your identity hidden from peers, it still logs your IP address itself. Using a VPN ensures that even TorrentSafe can’t access your real IP. I recommend you try one of these torrent-friendly VPNs, which all come with military-grade security without slowing your download and upload speeds.

  • Great for torrenting
  • Easy to use
  • Unlimited devices under one subscription

FAQs on TorrentSafe

Will TorrentSafe slow down my speeds?

TorrentSafe can increase your download speeds. This is because it uses reliable servers with high bandwidth and helps you avoid connection throttling from your ISP.

Is TorrentSafe safe?

No, it's not completely safe. I'd recommend using it with a secure VPN like ExpressVPN. This is because any malware or trackers that are already installed in the torrent file do not get removed before TorrentSafe passes it to you. The website also logs your IP address. It’s safer to layer TorrentSafe with a VPN to keep your real location and identity hidden.
