Previously known as NolimitVPN, under its new name Uppersafe offers a Firewall as a Service on top of all the VPN features of NolimitVPN since December 2016.
Based in Singapore, they provide VPN service which includes firewall protection, a free proxy service, and unfiltered DNS service. Their network has gateways located in the Netherlands, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Canada, United States, Japan, Singapore, India, and Australia. The VPN servers are configured to support the PPTP with 128-bit encryption and the L2TP protocols with 256-bit encryption. Their servers are setup to keep P2P and SMTP activity logs for 24 hours only with no other logs being kept.
Some of the points worth mentioning about Uppersafe’s service are that it supports VoIP software, such as Skype, so you can use video conferencing software with your subscription. The proxy service is included for free, but as always is not encrypted, so it is best to use it when you need fast download speeds for non-sensitive material. The firewall is both an NAT firewall and an antivirus firewall, so it provides you with an anonymous IP address and blocks malware or other such threats. The DNS servers are unfiltered and give you access to websites that your ISP or government may be blocking on their servers.
There are some limitations you will encounter while using Uppersafe’s service. You are limited to a single VPN connection, but you are allowed to connect multiple devices through that connection. So if you want to connect your home and work computers, you would need a second account for your work computer. Downloading of torrents is allowed, but they do honor DMCA complaints and may deactivate your account if they receive enough of them. While there is no limit to the amount of data you can transfer, the plans have bandwidth limits. If you want fast downloads, you will have to pay more.
Configuring your account is made easier by their custom app that is available for Windows and Linux. If you have an Apple desktop, iOS, or Android device you will have to use the instructions provided on their website. They are available, in the form of screenshots, for the Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Android, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and CentOS operating systems. Uppersafe also offers an extension for the Chrome and Firefox web browsers that notifies you of your connection status while you're browsing the internet. So you will know right away if you lose your protection and can reconnect immediately.
Support is provided in the form of online chat that is accessible directly from their web pages, a contact page on the website that you can fill out and send to them, or you can use IRC chat on Freenode. They also offer a 7-day trial so you can try their service before buying. Unfortunately, this comes at the expense of any refunds if you cancel your service after the seven day period.
Uppersafe accepts Stripe and PayPal as payment methods, and they do not keep any payment information on their servers. All plans include a free trial and full access to all the features offered with limitations on the amount of bandwidth you receive.
