NordVPN and FlashRouters Launch NordLynx-Integrated Router
NordVPN and FlashRouters have announced the release of the Privacy Hero 2, the first router with native support for NordLynx, NordVPN’s proprietary VPN protocol. The announcement was made on December 4, 2024, and these new VPN-integrated routers are already available for purchase.
FlashRouters specializes in secure networking solutions, including the sale of pre-configured VPN routers, remote router-flashing services, and more. The Privacy Hero 2 router is designed to provide a streamlined experience for households by automatically securing all internet traffic, without having to configure a VPN on individual devices.
Some of the key benefits of the Privacy Hero 2, according to FlashRouters, are:
- Pre-configured with NordLynx, removing the need for manual VPN setup
- Faster download speeds, thanks to NordLynx and support for the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard and 5GHz frequency
- Can handle up to 30 devices simultaneously
- Includes a one-year NordVPN subscription
Developed in-house by NordVPN, NordLynx is its recommended protocol. Based on WireGuard, it’s designed with a minimal code base, which reduces overhead without compromising security. Plus, it features double Network Address Translation (NAT) to improve privacy by avoiding data storage.
While commercial VPN-supported routers are not new, support for custom, advanced protocols, like NordLynx or ExpressVPN’s Lightway is not as common.
"Through our partnership with FlashRouters, we’re strengthening security for everyone relying on portable networking solutions or seeking a secure online experience while gaming," said Ignas Falkauskas, head of indirect sales at NordVPN. Joe Soria, COO of FlashRouters, echoed the sentiment, stating, "This router represents the culmination of our shared commitment to user privacy and seamless VPN integration.”
In related news, ASUS recently introduced its Wi-Fi 7 Router with integrated NordVPN. Launched in November 2024 for North American markets, this router combines next-generation Wi-Fi 7 technology with state-of-the-art VPN security, aimed at improving gaming and streaming experiences.
This latest announcement follows a slate of new and value-added services released by NordVPN. The VPN provider recently introduced post-quantum encryption for Linux users, with plans to roll it out on other platforms as well. NordVPN also released a free online malware scanner, available to the general public.
